Portable Appliance

Computing Appliance Applications Made Simple with FleXtreme Architecture
Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components drive our high-performance, modular appliances, helping us spearhead the shift from the general-purpose computing model to a more powerful and flexible model in computing appliance applications (hardware designed to perform one specific task).
Our systems easily perform functions that often require appliance technology, including:
- Sniffer applications
- Encryption
- Data backup
- GPS
- Data analysis/number crunching
- Networking
In the NextDimension flextop computers and the NextServer blade server, the open standards FleXtreme architecture and COTS operating system can be fine-tuned to give optimal performance and to disable all non-required services.
Since Linux has become the operating system of choice for this type of appliance, we offer most standard variations of Linux including:
- Red Hat
- SuSe
- Fedora Core
- Many real-time Linux platforms
The NextDimension flextops provide a portable solution as a screenless "black box," or mobile desktop workstation. Used as computing appliances, NextComputing systems give you numerous advantages:
- No or minimal setup required
- No knowledge of the inner workings required
- Plug-and-play replacement in case of failure
- Pre-configured underlying OS
- Custom application pre-installed prior to shipment
